On the afternoon of July 28, 2023 “Invest in Shanghai·Share the Future” event was successfully held in Melbourne, Australia. This event is hosted by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and co-organized by the Shanghai Municipal Commerce Commission and Bank of China. The China Chamber of Commerce in Australia (CCCA) is the supporting unit for this event.

About 150 people attended the event, including Hua Yuan, Deputy Mayor of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Zeng Jianhua, Acting Consul General of China in Melbourne, Ms. Fiona Letos, Executive Director of the Australian Bureau of International Affairs and Trade of Victoria, representatives of CCCA, Australia-China Business Council and other enterprises. Shen Weihua, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commerce Commission, presided over the event.

Acting Consul General Zeng Jianhua warmly welcomed Vice Mayor Huayuan and his delegation to visit Victoria. With the theme of exchanges and cooperation, he looked forward to the bright future of investment and economic and trade cooperation between the two sides. He looked forward to the joint efforts of both parties to maintain firm confidence, seize development opportunities, and deepen practical cooperation and make positive contributions to promoting the healthy and stable development of China-Australia relations

Vice Mayor Huayuan gave a keynote promotion with the theme of “New Journey, New Miracle, New Glory”. He pointed out that as China’s economic center city and the frontier window of reform and open, Shanghai and Australia have extensive and in-depth investment and economic and trade exchanges, and continue to make new breakthroughs. Shanghai will accelerate the promotion of high-level and all-round opening up to the outside world, build a full life cycle service system for enterprises, and strive to create a market-oriented, legal and international first-class business environment. Shanghai extends an invitation to Australian and global companies, welcoming investors and entrepreneurs to grow with Shanghai and create a better future.

President Ren Li of CCCA said that as one of China’s most important commercial centers, Shanghai’s economic vitality makes it an ideal choice for investment and cooperation with Australian companies. CCCA will continue to serve as a bridge to promote cooperation and exchanges between enterprises in China and Australia, actively assist Australian enterprises to find and seize more investment opportunities in Shanghai, and provide services to promote the economic and trade development of both parties.

David Olsson, President of the Australia-China Business Council, delivered a welcome speech. Lisa Gordon, head of commercial department of Lendlease Group, and Jonathan Rose, general manager of corporate communications of Rio Tinto Group in Australia, spoke on behalf of Australian companies respectively. Huang Shasha, deputy director of the Shanghai Foreign Investment Promotion Center, released the “2023 Shanghai Investment White Paper”. At the event site, Chinese and Australian companies reached a number of cooperation intentions.

During the Shanghai team’s visit to Australia, CCCA had in-depth exchanges with the delegation and will continue to actively assist in the promotion work in Australia and to build a bridge for investment and economic and trade cooperation between the two sides.
