On November 20th 2020, China Chamber of Commerce in Australia (CCCA) held 2020 annual general meeting through video presentation. Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Cheng Jingye attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The Chinese Consul General in Sydney, Zhou limin, the Acting Chinese Consul General in Perth, Jin qian, Minister Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Chinese embassy, Huang rengang, the Economic and Commercial Consul of the Consulate-General in Sydney, Wang Long and representatives of the economic and commercial organizations of the consulates in Australia also attended the meeting. President of CCCA, Chen Zheyu, Honorary President, Chen Huaiyu, presidents of branches, executive directors, directors and some members of Australia participated in the meeting. The meeting is hosted by Secretary General of CCCA, Wang Guannan.

In his speech, Ambassador Cheng Jingye affirmed the work done by CCCA in the past year, especially its efforts in actively assisting the China and Australia anti-pandemic efforts. Ambassador Cheng specifically mentioned the work and achievements of CCCA in supporting the 3rd Shanghai Import Expo. In his speech, Ambassador Cheng analyzed China-Australia relations and the Chinese and international situation in 2020. He introduced the phased results of the fight against the pandemic and the efforts to overcome the pandemic to achieve economic growth in China. He hopes that CCCA will continue to study and implement the latest major policies of China and make efforts to realize the “14th Five-Year Plan” and the 2035 long-term goal. Ambassador Cheng pointed out that the business community represented by CCCA is an important solid footing for the development of China-Australia relations. He hopes that CCCA will continue to make its own contributions in the new year and increase communication with the Australian business community to produce a more objective and rational understanding on the development of China and China-Australia relations. He hopes that CCCA will continue to expand its influence and make greater efforts in safeguarding the rights and interests of its members. The embassy (consulate) in Australia will continue to support the work of CCCA and create a good working environment for the development of Chinese companies in Australia.

President Chen Zheyu introduced the work of CCCA in 2020 and the plan for 2021 to attendees. He said that in 2020, CCCA has made important achievements in supporting the fight against the pandemic, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of member companies, improving member compliance capabilities, and improving process. Next year, CCCA will continue to display the image of Chinese companies in Australia, promote the development of China-Australia economic and trade relations with practical actions, actively integrate into the local society, develop innovative services, and further enhance the external influence and internal cohesion of CCCA, and strive to become an important platform for China-Australia economic and trade cooperation.

The meeting informed the voting matters of National Committee and Board of Directors. These include the appointment of Zhang Ning, vice chairman of Yancoal Australia Co., Ltd., as vice president of CCCA, and Pu Haiyang, general manager of China Petroleum International Australia Co., Ltd., as vice president of CCCA and president of the Brisbane branch; the personnel change of committee members, adding committee members and the president change of some industry committees.

The responsible persons and representatives of the economic and commercial organizations of the Chinese Embassy in Australia introduced the situation of bilateral economic and trade cooperation and put forward suggestions on the work of CCCA and its jurisdiction.

The meeting successfully completed scheduled agendas and pointed out the direction for the work of CCCA in 2021. All directors and members will further unite and cooperate, overcome difficulties, and continue to strengthen CCCA’s influence and safeguard the rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
