On the afternoon of November 30, 2018, the yearly CCCA Member Conference was held at the Primus Hotel Sydney. Wang Hongbo, Commercial Counselor of the Consulate-General in Sydney; Ren Shuyuan, First Secretary of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of Canberra; Lan Yuqiang, Consul of the Trade Office of the Consulate-General of Brisbane; Wei Liang, Consul-General of the Consulate General of Perth; Zhang Wei, Commercial Counselor of the Consulate-General in Adelaide, as well as the heads and representatives of the various business offices in Australia attended the meeting of the Board of Directors and delivered speeches. The CCCA Council and authorized representatives, representatives of members and Secretariat staff attended the meeting.

Chen Huaiyu, president of CCCA, made a summary of CCCA’s work in 2018 and plan for 2019. President Chen reviewed and summarized the achievements CCCA made in the year of 2018, and expressed sincere gratitude to the leaders and support from consulate and business offices. He pointed out that the work of CCCA in 2018 revolved around strengthening the construction of the Chamber of Commerce itself, consolidating the organizational foundation, and opening up new opportunities, including improving and revising the financial management methods of the Chamber of Commerce, , newly established the Adelaide Branch and the Financial industry chapter, successfully organized 47 Australian companies to participate in the first China International Import Expo. He emphasized that the General Chamber of Commerce pays attention to social responsibility, cares about the interests of its members, and builds three service platforms of “government and enterprise”, “enterprise and members” and “members”, aiming at maintaining and strengthening communication and cooperation between member companies and Australia relevant government departments.

Wang Hongbo, Commercial Counselor of the Consulate-General in Sydney, made an important speech on behalf of Gu Xiaojie, the Consul General in Sydney. First of all, Counselor Wang Hongbo affirmed the achievements of CCCA in various work in 2018, especially the important contributions in first China International Import Expo in 2018. She emphasized that CCCA as the official partner of China International Import Expo, must make persistent efforts and continue to contribute in the second China International Import Expo in 2019. At the same time, it is important for member companies to continuously strengthen the compliance awareness in their Australia business. CCCA’s industry/professional committees will place the role to strengthen communication and cooperation with local governments, enhance the service level for the majority of members, and promote the development of China-Australia economic and trade relations with practical actions.

Ren Shuyuan, First Secretary of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of Canberra; Lan Yuqiang, Consul of the Trade Office of the Consulate-General of Brisbane; Wei Liang, Consul-General of the Consulate General of Perth; Zhang Wei, Commercial Counselor of the Consulate-General in Adelaide stated requirements and suggestions for the work of the chapters and indicated that they would continue to support the work of the Chamber of Commerce and jointly contribute to the development of the Chamber of Commerce.

All the participants listened carefully to the “Global Economic Analysis” report from the chief economist of Bank of China Sydney Branch Song Ligang. Professor Song fully discussed the current Sino-US trade war and made a detailed analysis. From the perspective of economy and trade, the impact of trade wars on Chinese-funded enterprises was fully explored. Professor Song said that under the grim situation that the United States has adopted trade restrictions on China, Chinese enterprises in Australia should unite as one and minimize the impact of trade wars.

The conference achieved good results, and all participants fully understood the overall operation of CCCA in 2018 and the work plan of 2019. Member companies are the main source and stabilizer for the development of CCCA. In 2019, all the members of the General Chamber of Commerce will unite and cooperate with all members, forge ahead step by step, work hard and push forward the work of CCCA to another success.
